Painting With Light!

This was my first time painting with light, and I was so excited to immerse myself into this type of photography, mainly because its looks so cool. I've always appreciated how much effort goes into something like this, and thought I'd give it a try. So essentially, all there is to it, is keep the shutter open with an extremely small aperture. Get a flashlight and paint where you want the light to show up on the photo. I decided a portrait would be awesome to do, mainly because this technique is ideal for capturing intensity. So, got my remote shutter to make it slightly easier and focused around her face and told her to stay as still as possible. The shade was casted on the right side of her face causing a studio-lighting feel, but on steroids. I then took it into Photoshop, and being the technological fanboy, I decided to brighten it to really accentuate the effect I was going for. Other than adjusting brightness, nothing was done to this photo. I believe it came out extremely well and quite frankly I'm proud of this piece!

This isn't painting with light, but technically meets the requirements of this assignment. I'm particularly proud of this piece mainly because of the eeriness. Compositionally speaking, however, this could of used a bit of refinement. I think if I were to redo this picture, I would incorporate rule of thirds to make it a more powerful image. Overall however I'm very proud of this piece.

Truthfully, I am very indifferent about this piece. I'm really disappointed with the overall quality of the photo, I believe that it could be much better. However, I'm very proud that I experimented with unconventional means. See, this photo was captured using a car instead of lights. I think that I should commend myself for this obnoxious experimentation. If I were to retake this photo, I would adjust the shutter speed to 30", to give myself more time to pull out.
